Bushey Gym Leader, 21, Takes Charge with Pride and a Vision

Jess Godman manages Anytime Fitness. It is located on Aldenham Road. She started there three years ago. Her first job was membership and sales. Jess quickly moved up at the gym. She began as manager in October.

Jess expected to wait longer for this. An opportunity appeared and she took it. It seemed like a big jump to her. Jess studies at the University of Hertfordshire. She is doing an apprenticeship which is challenging and exciting for her. She carefully balances work and studying.

People are often surprised by her role. They ask to speak to her boss, not realizing she is the manager. Some customers treat her kindly due to her age. Managing older staff was hard at first, as Jess is the youngest staff member there.

However, the team is supportive and everyone gets along well together. When not working or studying, she enjoys running. Jess is training for the London Marathon, which takes place in April. She will raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Jess feels proud of her fast progress. She dreams of opening her own gym. However, this is just a long-term goal far off in the future. She believes she is an example of how people can build careers in leisure.
