The Horse and Chains is in Bushey’s High Street. It’s set back and has outdoor space. The pub has a traditional feel and is popular with regular customers. Manager Gordon Lungley knows how to draw people in and has worked in hospitality for years, even in Europe.

Gordon says the “nice local pub” vibe drew him in. He has managed the pub for two years, calling it a big community pub. The team and customers make it friendly, and they welcome everyone to events.

They added an open mic night this week. Comedy nights have been popular since December, and music events will happen this summer. Four or five acts will play in the garden as the food menu changes with the seasons.

Pubs face tough times nationally. Operators must find ways to bring people in. This pub does not show live sports.

Gordon lives on-site and says hospitality struggles now. Overheads are high and may increase after April. They are positive for the summer season because the pub has a garden and he says live music is in demand.

Gordon sources meat locally from Shallis Butcher. The food menu changes each season, and they have lunch and event menus. Sunday lunches are very popular, and booking in advance is advised.
