The Italian restaurant, owned by TV chef Giancarlo Caldesi, closed suddenly in Belsize Village after opening just months ago.

Caldesi restaurant opened in April. It was located in Belsize Village on Belsize Lane. It replaced Calici restaurant, which was owned by TV chef Giancarlo Caldesi, who also runs a cookery school.
Giancarlo is known for shows like Return to Tuscany and Saturday Kitchen. He opened his first restaurant in Marylebone in 2002. He and his wife have run La Cucina Caldesi for 17 years and have another location in Bray.
The Tuscan restaurant served pizza, pasta, and cocktails. Diners gave it good reviews. Still, it closed suddenly this January.
On January 21, they posted on Instagram thanking everyone for their support and cherishing shared moments. The Caldesi legacy lives on at two other locations in Marylebone and Campagna.
The location has had a varied past, starting as the Belsize Tavern pub from the 1850s to 2006. Next, it became XO, a pan Asian restaurant. Then, Calici occupied the space before Caldesi took over.
Giancarlo spoke to the Ham&High last May, saying it was a family business. He said his sons Giorgio and Flavio helped a lot and thought it a beautiful place.
Robert Stephenson Padron, with the Belsize Village Business Association, attended the launch and wished them many years of success.
The future of 29 Belsize Lane isn’t known. Rumors say a pan Asian chain will move in, which already has locations in Marylebone and Notting Hill.
