The council approved a new budget at a meeting held January 14. Residents will see an 8.76 percent increase as a result.

A local council precept is a community tax that funds services within the community. This tax covers things like cemeteries, playing fields, toilets, and furniture. Your council tax bill includes this precept.

That 8.76 percent rise means residents will pay 79p more each month, which is also 18p extra each week. The budget increased £39,940 from last year.

Council members discussed possible projects, but these projects are not yet decided. Money is available for planning these projects, ensuring resources are available later. Members stressed these issues matter, and they hope to improve Caldicot over time.

The Finance Committee suggested the 79p increase at their meeting on December 18, 2024. Councillor Wyndham Conniff proposed the budget, and Councillor Gaynor Owen backed the proposal. After that, eight members approved it while one member abstained from voting.
