The work on Calne High Street finished. It started back in January, and the road reopens on February 17. It will be one-way for cars as a test to ease traffic. The traffic jams happen on roads like The Square.

The project was not without issues. They put in a tarmac road, and barriers were placed. Disabled parking moved to Wood Street. Now, cars can travel south from Wood Street to Curzon Street.

Drivers must turn left at Curzon Street. Cars from Wood Street must turn right at Curzon Street’s roundabout. They then go along the A4 route. The trial lasts eighteen months.

The council will see if the change works and will check for needed changes. Cllr Nick Holder spoke about the project. He is in charge of highways. He said High Street is now one-way, with traffic flowing from north to south.

He wants people to share feedback. This helps them adjust the plan, if needed. The goal of this test is to improve air quality and to help traffic issues. Calne has problems in the town, and these changes might help alleviate them.
