The Waterbeach to Cambridge busway plan progresses with council backing, including a new walking and cycling path.

This busway will run off-road, between Waterbeach and Cambridge. It includes a new walking and cycling path, too. It will help travel between Waterbeach New Town and north Cambridge. The route goes via Landbeach. There will also be a new travel hub. People can park their cars and then take the bus. This hub is for folks traveling along the A10 road.
The maintenance track will become a path. People can walk or bike on it. This path will connect to other paths and travel hubs. This busway is the third one proposed by the GCP. It reached a key step after gaining the support of the council. That support happened on Tuesday, February 11.
Some folks worried about on-road options. They wanted to know if they were considered. Others felt on-road options might affect dualling the A10. Steve Count supports dualling the A10 road. He doesn’t support an on-road option. He thinks we need a new A10 and A14 junction.
Elisa Meschini said this is a big moment. The busway connects places, including Milton Park & Ride. It also connects Cambridge Regional College and the science park. She said the path would provide more travel options. It helps people get around easier. The busway gives people more travel choice. It’ll help getting to work, school, or into Cambridge.
They will send the application to the government later this year. A public inquiry will likely happen in 2026.
