St Philip Howard Church is getting a big update. The project costs £3 million. Construction has started to make the church bigger. They will also add a new community hall.

Cambridge’s population is growing fast, and many new homes are planned nearby. St Philip Howard will serve many new residents. It has served the area since 1978.

The church will grow from 230 to 400 seats, allowing more people to attend services. The hall has its own entrance and a kitchenette, supporting community activities.

The church will feature updated systems, including heating, lighting, and audio. These updates will improve comfort and access. They benefit those with impairments, and step-free access helps people with mobility issues.

The project started on February 10th. Bishop Peter Collins blessed the foundation stone. The project is a sign of faith and displays commitment to the future.

The Latham family is key to the project. John Latham Jr. coordinated the parish’s input, carrying on his father John’s work. Fr Philip John leads the parish well.

The parish and grants fund the project entirely. Donations came from 40 nationalities. The hall will aid local groups and also complements nearby developments.

Tim Powter-Robinson leads the architectural design. He is from Cowper Griffiths. Godfrey & Hicks is the main contractor, and Mark Godfrey is excited to work on the project.

Robert Dryden supports the project, noting the new facility benefits the community. It creates space for community activities. More people can use the bigger church.

The project is planned to finish in early 2026. Masses are at St Bede’s on Sundays. Weekday services occur at a temporary space.
