Mount Anvil wants to rebuild the old Bacton estate. They sent new plans to Camden Council. The plans include 447 new homes. That’s almost double the number approved in 2012. They want to build two towers. The towers would be up to 26 stories tall.

Bacton Tower Action (BTA) invited officials to a meeting. They invited council members and Mount Anvil too. The meeting was on February 20. These officials reportedly cancelled at the last minute. Other groups still came, including Heath & Hampstead Society and Kentish Town Neighbourhood Forum.

Billy Bryant discussed similar council projects, mentioning Murphy’s Yard. It’s another high-rise plan withdrawn after community opposition. He thinks the council is too friendly with developers.

Jo Siedlecka called the council “cowardly” for not attending. Councillor Tom Simon said turnout was “great”. Dozens attended hoping to meet council officers and Mount Anvil. Simon said their absence was a “missed opportunity.”

Mount Anvil said they would meet with six community members for an “in depth” talk. BTA chair Robert Lewenstein said meetings were during work hours. Only three people attended one evening event. He wants everyone to hear what they say.

Camden Council said nobody arranged for them to attend. They want to listen to all local stakeholders and ensure Mount Anvil has direct discussions with the group. The council truly values community engagement.

The council said Mount Anvil held design sessions and “Meet the Developer” events, along with weekly drop-ins. They said listening is essential. Mount Anvil offered a consultation with BTA and will hold public events soon, before they apply for planning permission. Mount Anvil was asked for their comments.
