A comic shop in Camden was saved; it almost shut down after 43 years.

Mega City Comics closed in January because the owner, Martin Kravetz, retired and nobody suitable could take over the shop. Forbidden Planet will now reopen it, and they run ten sci-fi stores in the UK.

They are excited to take over the store, which opened in 1981 and is one of the oldest comic shops in the UK. The shop announced a big sale in November 2024 after they could not find a new owner then.

Forbidden Planet will renovate the store and reopen it with a bang soon. Martin said he negotiated for four months and picked Forbidden Planet carefully so the store’s employees could keep their jobs; Vik and Jack will still work there.

Mega Comics started by mail order in 1981 and moved to Inverness Street in 1987. In 2010, the shop was praised and won an award for local retail excellence.

Andrew Sumner, who used to publish magazines nearby and often bought comics there, loves Mega City Comics. He wanted to save the store after hearing news, and Vivian Cheung and Nick Landau are also pleased, as they respect Martin’s legacy.
