The Trust opposes Oasis plans. Claims it obstructs canal restoration. March set for February 16th.

Seven Capital plans to rebuild the Oasis Centre. These plans block the canal route by ten meters. The space would be too small for a canal. There would be no room for a towpath. Residents hope the march makes a difference. The march takes place on February 16.
A man named Steve runs a canal YouTube channel. He says Swindon feels like a concrete jungle. He thinks the canal offers a green space. This space could bring Swindon back to life.
Most of the canal area has a protected barrier. It’s thirty meters wide and cannot be built on. But this section lacks that protection. Without enough space, the canal cannot be restored. This would greatly affect the community. The protest starts at 11 am on Harcourt Road. It should end around 12:20 pm.
The canal trust worked with the council and Seven Capital before. They planned a ski dome while keeping the canal route. These earlier plans did not work out. The trust says its input was then ignored.
A petition against the Oasis plans has over 3,000 signatures. Many supporters plan to join the protest march. Chloe Ford wants Seven Capital to create a 30-meter boundary. She says they need to make a lot of noise.
