TPE reported problems on routes like Liverpool to Hull/Manchester/Newcastle and Lancaster to Manchester Airport. Travel between Liverpool and Manchester used Warrington Central. Buses replaced trains between Liverpool and Manchester, stopping at Lea Green and Newton.
Transport for Wales services had trouble too. Affected services included Chester/Llandudno to Manchester and Holyhead to Manchester Airport. Trains may start or end at Newton-le-Willows, and some will not run between Newton and Manchester. Buses run between Newton-le-Willows and Manchester Piccadilly.
The crash damaged the overhead lines. Repairs took quite a few hours, but the engineers managed.
Network Rail is sorry for the trouble. They ask people to check train operators for updates to ensure everyone has the latest travel information.
