A car thief gets over ten years for killing a man who tried to stop his Land Rover from being stolen.

Hanley, 57, tried stopping Sutton. The car drove off, throwing Hanley, who suffered fatal head injuries and died.
Sutton admitted to manslaughter and received a ten-year, six-month jail term. Charlene Thomas, 37, also went to jail, convicted of theft and receiving a three-year, three-month sentence.
Police said the crime was cruel and that Hanley died defending his property. The sentences reflect the nature of the crime, and police hope it gives comfort to Hanley’s family.
Sutton and Thomas planned the theft earlier that day. Detectives found the stolen Land Rover the next day, after someone had tried to burn the vehicle.
Hanley’s family said he loved his grandchildren and will not see them grow up now. He was a supportive and loving man, and his death leaves a large hole in their lives.
Thomas also got 21 months for a 2022 robbery. Her total jail time is now five years.
