A new 64-bedroom care home gets the green light in Sturmer, replacing the problem-plagued Woodlands Hotel.

Braintree council voted yes to the project Tuesday night. County Care Homes 5 Limited made the plans. Sturmer Parish Council also liked the idea.
The old hotel attracted problems for years. People dumped trash and caused trouble. The hotel closed back in 2018.
David Porth is a parish councillor. He told the committee the plans were welcome and liked the village green upgrades. The new care home will replace another one Sturmer used to have. This new one should create twenty jobs.
They will cut down eighteen trees for this but plant fifty-three new trees instead. Peter Schwier sits on the planning committee and thinks the care home is a good thing. The area needs more care facilities. Many elderly people live there.
We need more things like this, he said, since this helps people in our community and those nearby. Dealing with the aging population is crucial. We must build these things now.
