Allen Morgan was sentenced for conspiring to kill his wife, Carol, in 1981. The case remained unsolved for over 40 years.

Carol was 36 when Allen conspired to murder her in 1981, ultimately being found guilty in 2024. Allen wanted to be with his mistress and he also wanted Carol’s money, feeling he couldn’t divorce her.
Allen was having an affair with Margaret Spooner, who later became his wife. On August 13, 1981, Carol died in the shop. After the murder, Allen and Margaret moved to Yorkshire for a fresh beginning.
In 2018, Detective Carl Foster reopened the cold case, seeing flaws in the initial investigation. Foster noticed Allen was never a suspect, having created a solid alibi by seeing a movie with Carol’s kids.
A witness, Jane Bunting, was re-interviewed in 2021 and shared that she waited 40 years to speak up. Jane discussed a pub conversation that happened with Allen and Margaret before the murder, where Allen talked about getting rid of Carol and asked Jane if she knew anyone.
The conversation became serious, making Jane feel uneasy, and she left. Police weren’t aware of this evidence before 2021.
Margaret Morgan was found not guilty. Allen got a life sentence on July 29, 2024, and must serve at least 22 years. The judge called Allen a “wicked person” and stated that he is the only one who knows who the hitman is.
