Moffat may get a cash hub after its only bank closes in November. LINK suggests improvements, Cash Access UK is exploring options.

LINK checked cash access in Moffat. LINK manages UK’s ATM network and suggested improvements for the post office, including free deposit and withdrawal services.
These services cover personal accounts and business accounts, LINK said. The new services should be ready in three months, according to LINK’s expectations.
Some locals doubted these changes. Mick Barker, speaking for the community council, noted the post office doesn’t offer these services and implementing them may raise costs.
The council asked LINK to review this, but LINK said they won’t change their assessment. Cash Access UK, a non-profit, bank-funded company, is exploring a Moffat cash hub.
Scott McMeeken shared more details, stating that LINK won’t reassess Moffat now, but LINK asked Cash Access UK to look into the town. Someone from Cash Access UK visited Moffat, checking potential locations.
A cash hub has staff and a physical space, open weekdays, 9 AM to 5 PM. It won’t replace a bank entirely, of course. Cash hubs improve cash access a lot. People deposit, withdraw, and ask questions with staff available during work hours to help.
Cash Access UK is assessing Moffat now with the aim to set up a cash hub this year. The assessment is happening as we speak.
They hope a cash hub opens soon, depending on their current evaluation. People remain positive about the possibility.
