Castlehill Care Home had problems. It risked losing its ability to operate. A new inspection showed improvements. The home is in Inverness.

Last June, inspectors warned the home and said it was “weak” in some areas. Morar Living, the old operators, disagreed and objected to the report. Changes were still required.

Inspectors revisited in November and found some improvements. Simply Inverness Ltd now runs the home. It houses up to 88 residents.

Another visit happened in February; the home kept improving. It rated “adequate” in most areas, with one category rated as “good.” The Care Inspectorate found things met requirements and also added new requirements.

Staff built good relationships and knew the residents well. The home worked well with other professionals. The environment felt comfy and clean; however, communication needs fixing, said inspectors, and support plans need more detail.

The home’s setting got a “good” rating, while support for wellbeing was “adequate.” Leadership got an “adequate” score, and planned care also got “adequate.”

Staff treated people with compassion, were kind, and paid attention. Relatives confirmed this, and staff knew residents’ needs well. They helped upset residents feel safe.

Inspectors confirmed one past issue fixed but still saw a need for improvement. They wanted better pain relief evaluation; staff need to check if it works.

Leadership showed “consistent” improvement, and the setting showed “strong” gains. No new requirements were added for these.

Care planning improved to “adequate,” but it still needs work, the report mentions. Care plans lacked personal goals, and staff didn’t always read them.

The home used many agency staff who weren’t always familiar with residents. Important information must be shared better; otherwise, it impacts care.

The home must share info with all staff, and staff need to tailor care plans too. Plans should include resident goals. No deadline was set for these tasks.
