Oxfordshire residents can enjoy charity events! Swimathon returns this year with distances for people, groups, and great causes.
People of all ages should swim and raise money. Help support Cancer Research UK, Marie Curie, and the Swimathon Foundation.
Many swims exist for individuals, ranging from 400m on up, with a Triple 5k as the hardest option. Teams can also join, consisting of two to five people. Team relays are 1.5k or 5k.
Can’t make those dates? Join MySwimathon instead and swim between March 21 and April 6. Pick your own swim distance, time, and place, then complete your swim.
Duncan Goodhew, an Olympic gold medalist, supports Swimathon. He hopes to inspire people to enjoy swimming and make a difference.
He meets great people every year, some swimming for the first time, others to honor loved ones, and some swimming very far distances. He meets people overcoming cancer and those facing terminal illness.
Everyone has their story, and each person sets their own goal. Just be yourself at Swimathon, it doesn’t matter your age or ability. Swimathon says everyone is a star.
Hannah Grant, who works for Marie Curie, said Swimathon is family fun and a challenge. People raise money for a good cause because someone dies without care often.
You can help Marie Curie by going to your local pool during March and raising money. Marie Curie provides expert care, helping people with any illness.
Training plans, lasting five or ten weeks, are available on the website. These plans help you prepare your swim.
Oxford has three locations: Ferry, Barton, and Leys. Kidlington and Gosford centres also host, while Abingdon, Witney, Didcot, and Henley are other options. Banbury, Bicester, and Wantage will host too.
