Bradford Council cut funding to Ilkley Good Neighbours earlier this year. Supporters now want to raise money and plan running and swimming feats for this.

Penny Coulthard, the Vice Chair, said it is their 50th anniversary, noting that funding is more important now. Shop Assist and Befriending lost support; these projects help the isolated and lonely.

Penny is training to run 50km as part of the North Downs Ridge Ultra Race in Surrey in February. She has never run this far, and support for older people motivates her.

Ian Wilson, the charity’s Treasurer, will swim 50 lengths of Ilkley Pool 50 times before breakfast. He is halfway toward this swimming goal and wants to support the vital community work.

Anita Dunford, a trustee who also organizes charity social events, is swimming 50km during February, March, and April. She sees it as a test of endurance.

Charity chair Ed Duguid will take a plunge at White Wells on March 8. He hopes 50 people will join him, noting people are more aware of Good Neighbours’ role since the funding cuts were announced.

Robbie Moore, an MP and charity supporter, was invited to the White Wells dip. He thinks it is a fantastic charity that improves vulnerable older people’s lives. They seek 50 sponsored people for the dip.
