Charlbury Amateur Dramatic Society (CADS) marks 50 years in 2026. The group aims to celebrate decades of shows.

A 1989 photo reminded us of CADS. The photo showed a dress rehearsal for “Streets Ahead,” a revue. They performed twice at the Memorial Hall. The Alan Fraser Trio, a jazz band, played with them.
We didn’t know the names in the photo. Sally Aldridge, a member, contacted us quickly and identified the individuals. Anne Turvey, Jay Miller, and Cliff Gadsby are in it. Christine Pearce and Betty Stokes are also in the photo.
Another picture shows the “When We Are Married” cast. It is a Yorkshire comedy by JB Priestley. Glena Horne, Mike Hall, and Anne Turvey appear along with Dave Court, Denise Summers, and Terry Walker.
A third picture features “Blithe Spirit” cast members. Noel Coward wrote this play. Lorna Woodhams and Dorothy Carrington are present. Helen Wright, John Kearsey, and Paula Dick star. Richard Franklin and Christine Pearce are also in view.
Picture four shows a scene from “Rapunzel,” a pantomime by Tom Whalley. The audience actively participated in the show, which featured a simple but effective set. Sound and light effects enhanced the performance.
Picture five shows a “Treasure Island” performance. Picture six has Jake Acock, David Simkin, and Barbara Ingham. They starred in “Aladdin”, still in panto style.
CADS will celebrate its 50th birthday in 2026. Their first show was in 1976. It was “Relatively Speaking” by Alan Ayckbourn.
CADS does many shows, including pantomimes, farces, and comedies. They also cover more serious topics and perform at different venues. They use Memorial Hall, St Mary’s Church, Chipping Norton Theatre, Marlborough School, and local gardens.
CADS welcomes new young members, all tastes and abilities, and people of any age. Anyone wanting to join can get involved with them.
