A man in his 50s died at Chatham Docks after a waste bale fell on him. Police and HSE are investigating the incident.

Police and the HSE are investigating. The man who died was in his 50s. A helicopter landed nearby on St Mary’s Island. Paramedics and police responded quickly too, but sadly, they could not save the man. He died at the docks.
A worker described the scene as shocking, saying ambulances were in the yard. A lorry had backed into the yard, but a waste bale blocked its path. The worker reported that another worker was underneath it then.
People tried to free him, but it was too late. The worker said yard staff were shocked by the event. Many ambulances, police cars, and a helicopter were present. The man usually tidied the yard daily.
The worker doesn’t recall any prior deaths there, and they believe the yard is running normally now. The man worked for PDMR, a business located at the docks. Police received the call around 9:30 AM Friday.
Police confirmed the man in his 50s died, and his family has been notified already. They are investigating the incident with the HSE and will create a report for the coroner. The HSE also confirmed their investigation is underway.
