Council spends £1m on one person’s care. Twelve needing intense care cost £4m yearly, straining resources.

Gorman mentioned twelve people needing intense care. Their care costs the council four million pounds yearly. He thinks someone at the national level has to find a solution. He brought up social care costs at the council meeting.
Gorman stated the central government has cut local funding for years. Now, they expect councils to raise their own funds. Funding children and adult social care poses a big problem. Demand for these services grew significantly in recent years. It now uses over 70% of Cheshire East’s funds.
He explained governments promised to address this issue before. They keep delaying solutions for essential services. The council gives care to about 6,000 adults. He said some adults have really complex needs. One person’s care costs the council one million pounds each year. The council sent letters to care providers recently. They want to negotiate better deals for the council.
