Council receives £25.3 million but must still address future financial shortfalls to ensure stability.

The government gave the council £25.3 million. This is exceptional financial support for them. Adele Taylor said something important. She referred to her section 25 report, which is part of the budget report.
She indicated they can set a legal budget with the money, but they must deliver that budget. The council’s financial stability depends on it. Future financial years still have shortfalls, and they still need to address those gaps.
Adele Taylor clarified her position. She could not say there is no risk at all, as that would not be truthful. The risk decreased for 2025/26 thanks to the extra support.
The council received this support last week. They can borrow or sell things, a process called ‘capitalisation,’ which helps meet daily costs.
The government gave thirty areas extra support. This protects services and makes things stable. Cheshire East will set its budget soon.
The full council meeting is on Wednesday. It starts at 11 am and will be at Tatton Park.
