Hickory’s Smokehouse in Chester reopens with a fresh look, expanded kitchen, and river view dining.

They have many televisions showing sports. One person brought family to try it. Even the vegetarian loved the veggie burger, saying it was the best ever. The place feels truly warm.
Staff offer a brilliant welcome, always. Founder Neil McDonnell said service matters most. He wants the best dining experience. Chester’s location is the original Hickory’s, which he called the “flagship site”. This remodel is personal to them.
They now have 27 restaurants. He and his partners work hard, ensuring high quality constantly. He is proud of the original location, where they experiment.
They added a river room for dining, available year-round with a roof. The room has great river views. They revamped the sports area, and also doubled the kitchen size.
Neil took inspiration from Texas during a trip. The smokehouse is key to their success. Chefs give tours and explain the process. They smoke over 100kg daily.
The reviewer ordered drinks. Huge milkshakes soon appeared. Starters included corn dogs, brisket tacos, and fried pickles. Everyone loved the frickles.
The main courses arrived. The reviewer had a brisket sub, while others ordered pulled pork and ribs. Someone had a chicken waffle dish, and mac and cheese was also enjoyed. Everyone ate quietly.
They tried cocktails, like a mojito and a Hard Cherry Cola drink. They even had a cotton candy cocktail, with gin poured into it. It was amazing, they said.
Some skipped dessert because they were full, but they still had churros with ice cream. Hickory’s is like an “event” place. People might visit for a big treat, or you can also grab an after-work pint.
Neil said it’s “in your blood.” He thinks they give people what they want. He and his team made it a success. He rated the restaurant a perfect 10/10.
