The Cocky Anchor in Worcester offers ‘Sign of Spring’, a unique green ale for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Stonehenge brewery made this green ale, which boasts a 4.6 percent alcohol content. According to Matt Dainty, the Cocky Anchor’s general manager, it’s proving quite popular.
Matt described the color as surprising, noting the taste is a “nice premium bitter.” He believes they are likely the only Worcester pub serving it. A CAMRA member informed him about it at a beer festival last year.
Remembering it fondly, he pursued acquiring it to bring it to Worcester because it tastes very good. He added that some non-ale drinkers even liked it, making it great for St. Patrick’s Day, though he doubts it will last all weekend.
‘Sign of Spring’ features unique ingredients, including Stonehenge Spring Water. Barley and wheat malts are included, and whole hops provide flavor. The brew utilizes top-fermenting yeast, with a bit of “green magic” added to complete the recipe.
The Stonegate website describes it well, saying the ale is smooth and rich. It notes the strong malt and hop aromas, alongside a fruity and bitter finish.
