Plans for homes on a Colne site refused due to poor drainage and design, which councillors deemed harmful to the area.

It’s in the Primet Bridge area. Plans call the site neglected and overgrown. They say it makes the area look like a wasteland.
Builders wanted eight semi-detached homes and three terraced homes. All would have three bedrooms, gardens, and parking.
Pendle Council stopped the project. The builder said it would fit well. They claimed the area looks bad now.
The council said no for two reasons. First, the water drainage plan was not good. It could make flooding worse elsewhere. Second, the design was poor. Materials like render and dormers looked bad.
They would harm the look of the area and affect the Primet Bridge area. The council said benefits did not outweigh the harm. The damage to the area mattered more.
The location is mostly homes. Old mills are nearby. The outlet is close, but you can’t walk there easily. A historic foundry is also near.
The plans said the area began as industrial. Now, the area has some modern housing. The housing replaced old terraces. Some land stayed empty.
The builder can appeal the decision. They can also change the plans and try again. They need to fix the problems the council mentioned.
