Commissioner Visits Torfaen Pensioners to Address Ageing Challenges

Rhian Bowen-Davies went to the Widdershins Centre. It’s in Sebastopol, near Pontypool. She spoke with thirty older folks there. They discussed ageing challenges and wanted changes.

The older people find the centre really helpful. Activities and support help them stay independent, and they also stay linked to their community by going there.

They talked about some big problems. Public transport is hard to use, and getting to doctors is another issue, with some people also struggling with using computers.

The commissioner plans to use what she learned. She will include their ideas in her upcoming plan. Her strategy will reflect their experiences.

This visit is part of a bigger project. The commissioner wants to talk to older people all over Wales. She is asking their thoughts on commission work. The Widdershins Centre is run by Age Connects Torfaen.

They offer activities, support, and info for older adults. They even have nail cutting available. Age Connects Torfaen stated they enjoyed the commissioner’s visit. The commissioner’s insights help them improve services. They want older people to feel valued.

Besides these visits, the commissioner is also asking for written feedback. People can share their thoughts by filling out a short form.
