E G Carter & Co. will build 60 affordable apartments for seniors on the old library site in Melksham, run by Wiltshire Council.

The plan is to build sixty apartments with one or two bedrooms, featuring level access and on-site care staff to help residents as needed. Wiltshire Council will run the apartments.
The location is good for older people because shops, restaurants, and cafes are close. E G Carter won the contract because they have experience with similar projects. The council picked them after comparing bids, and they will design the project and seek permission before building it if approved.
Sam Carter, a manager at E G Carter, said they are happy to be chosen and want to work with Wiltshire Council to create the best apartments for Melksham. Councillor Phil Alford, in charge of housing, says the site has huge potential.
The development aims to provide high-quality, affordable homes for seniors. The council wants to provide the housing people need, with a goal of 1,000 new affordable homes, already having built 173.
Forty more are being built right now, and another 533 are planned. Millions are being invested to build energy-efficient council homes and improve current homes, striving for a good energy rating. The council has built many affordable homes.
