Roads in Cheshire East need repair. A contractor will pay for surface issues and windscreen damage claims.

At a council meeting, Lata Anderson asked about repair dates for Maclean Way. Anderson also inquired about windscreen damage claims, stating that stones were flying on Maclean Way.
Linda Buchanan raised concerns about the poor condition of the A500 road. She noted receiving many complaints and said stones were damaging car windshields, with cars driving along peeling road surfaces.
Buchanan sought assurance on who covers the damage costs. She asked if the contractor handles claims and repair bills, adding she had received assurance that the contractor would be responsible.
Mark Goldsmith, chair of the highways and transport committee, said claims details are available online on the Cheshire East website. He explained an outside company handles the claims, assessing them independently from the council, and the council only pays required claims.
Goldsmith confirmed the workers bear the road costs and will also handle the windscreen damage costs. Reiterating that the council won’t pay for any of it, he said they’ve frequently used this surface treatment.
The road repair work is scheduled for April or May, pending better weather conditions. Last year, much of this road coating was applied, but about eleven percent failed.
An expert is investigating the cause of the road problems, identifying faulty bitumen as the root cause. Goldsmith assured the work has a guarantee, with only one company bearing responsibility.
The contractor takes the situation seriously and is covering all costs related to the road issue. Individuals with stone chip damage should file a claim, as the claims company will handle each case. To reiterate, Cheshire East won’t pay these amounts, the contractor will.
