Coppet Hall Coastal Path: Reopening Date Remains Unclear

The coastal path between Saundersfoot and Wisemans Bridge is still closed. Landslips happened again this winter, impacting the popular route. The latest fall was in January near Wisemans Bridge, affecting the cycleway to Coppet Hall.

Local councillors Williams and Cormack are aware of the path. Pembrokeshire County Council is addressing this issue and talking to contractors about solutions. Costs and safe reopening are being considered, but a fixed reopening timeframe is not yet available. Updates are expected in the next few weeks.

The first slip was small, occurring near the village tunnels. While the council quickly addressed this minor issue, another major slip led to the path’s closure. Experts will survey the slope to understand the extent of the damage. Following the survey, they will explore solutions for the landslip. This might involve removing the land or adding a fence.

Repair costs are currently unknown, depending on the chosen solution. Previous work in 2024 addressed other cliff sections near Coppet Hall and Wisemans Bridge. This new slip occurred in a different location. The council recognizes the local importance of the path.

Businesses and tourism rely significantly on this path. Its closure for eight months has had an impact, with some businesses reporting a slow year. The community seeks a positive solution, especially considering that almost a million people used the path in 2023.

The local communities have benefitted greatly from the path’s availability. The accessible route is vital for individuals with mobility issues, and it’s used by people across the community. While an upper coastal path exists, many people cannot easily access and are missing out.
