The Throckmorton family will manage Coughton Court from 2026, ending the National Trust’s involvement.

The family chose to manage the property, starting as of February 2026. The family will manage Coughton Court daily, deciding opening times and entry fees. National Trust members won’t get free entry.
The Throckmorton family has lived there since 1409. Twenty-one generations lived there. The family gave ownership to the National Trust in 1946. A 300-year lease allows family to live there. They can manage it as an attraction too.
The family asked the National Trust to manage visitors in 2005. This arrangement lasts until early next year. Coughton will reopen March 15, 2025. There will be events that year. The National Trust looks forward to seeing you.
The family was related to Gunpowder Plotters, aiming to stop Catholics from being persecuted. Robert Catesby led the Gunpowder Plot. His mother Anne was a Throckmorton from Coughton Court. Catesby spent time there as a child and recruited twelve more members.
