Bradford Council allocates additional funds to support the Darley Street Market development.

They discussed the extra money privately. The public and press weren’t allowed to attend. The council said revealing the costs could hurt negotiations. They wanted the best deal possible.
The market’s food court is completely full and will offer something new to the city center. Dave Shepherd talked about the market’s future. He said the traders are key to the market and they are excited about moving there.
He said fitting costs were higher than expected. He asked for funds from a backup budget to help complete the development.
Angela Blake stated the building finished in June. The food court is nearly done. All tenants have signed agreements. The two market floors still need work.
Alex Ross Shaw called it an exciting project but was sad about the need for more money. Shaw understands everyone is working hard.
He said transparency is important. The food court will be a novel addition. The market square will be a great feature. Other nearby buildings are also improving and the project helps Bradford grow.
After this, the press and public left the meeting. The Executive then approved the added funds.
Rebecca Poulsen questioned the different floor timelines during the private part. Existing stall holders have concerns. Foot traffic is down, and moving is delayed, which harms their businesses a lot.
Poulsen stated delays hurt shop owners. They also feel forgotten by the Council. This is because the Council focuses on Darley Street. She mentioned Keighley Market specifically.
