Bradford Playhouse gets council approval for accessibility upgrades, including a lift and improved access.

The city council approved updates to the building, including adding a lift for better access. Disabled access will also improve after the makeover.
Several groups pledged money for the project and started a Crowdfunder to raise an extra £10,000. The goal is to welcome more people, especially during Bradford’s City of Culture year.
The outside will get a new doorway, and they will remove metal added in the 90s. A fresh coat of paint will restore the 1930s look, while the inside will gain new, accessible restrooms. A lift will connect the street to the bar, as well as the box office and accessible seats.
Jon Ackroyd from the council spoke about it, saying the playhouse has great cultural value and enhances the city’s heritage. The changes will help the playhouse thrive, so more people can enjoy it.
The playhouse team is happy about the permission and wants a fully inclusive venue. It will improve access to the theatre, making it more welcoming for everyone. The playhouse has hosted shows for almost a century and is now ensuring access for all while keeping its historic charm.
