Two council members in County Durham engaged in a physical altercation, leading to a hearing for alleged misconduct.

A meeting in County Durham turned violent though. Locals saw a ‘wrestling match’ between two older men. It involved Colin Pease and David Darling. The incident happened last May, a report says.
Darling spoke loudly to Pease, the report states, and asked provoking questions. Pease called Darling a ‘prat’ and tried to leave. Darling then shut the door hard and then did a ‘rugby-type tackle’, it is alleged. A hearing will review the event.
A councillor thought it was a wrestling match. The report mentions the ‘prat’ comment and says Darling grabbed Pease’s neck. Pease had scratches, blood, and broken glasses. Darling had a red face and a bruised finger.
It is unclear who started the fight. The report claimed Pease disrespected Darling, but the investigator thinks Darling grabbed Pease’s neck first. Pease may have defended himself reasonably. A hearing will decide if they broke conduct rules.
