Council denies negligence after man, Michael Horn, died from pneumonia in unheated home in Ilford. Inquest opened.

Horn had pneumonia and septic shock. No heating existed in his home either. He lacked oxygen and had high blood acid. Bruises covered his body too. Sad, right? He passed away in the hospital on January 15.
The coroner opened an inquest on February 4 raising concerns about “self-neglect”. There were also concerns about the council, as his living conditions gave cause for concern.
The council stated they were saddened by Horn’s passing and that he wasn’t known to their services. They also claimed it wasn’t referred for review. They’ll contact the coroner about the council’s supposed role, stating it lacks factual basis.
Horn died from natural causes, including organ failure and pneumonia. The hospital referred his death, worrying about his living conditions. The coroner wants records from the council, listing any referrals about Horn or his address. The full inquest will occur on August 6.
