Blaenavon got a UNESCO award way back in 2000. Wind farms might now threaten that status.

A company, RWE, wants to put up some wind turbines. They could be super tall, about 200 meters! These would sit on land between two towns.

Wales officials will decide about this construction project. This is because it’s important for the whole country. Local councilors looked at the effects on the area.

Justin Jones, a planner, spoke about the location. Some turbines would be in one area, Blaenau Gwent. Other parts would be in Torfaen.

The turbines won’t be inside the special heritage place. However, a road to them cuts through a scenic area. This spot lacks government support for turbines. Jones said the moving blades will show above a mountain. This would be visible from Blaenavon.

Janet Jones thinks the turbines will ruin the area’s look. She wants renewable energy but not at this location.

Stuart Ashley mentioned Wales has few World Heritage sites. He compared it to the Taj Mahal! He said people could see turbines from the national park.

Torfaen worries about the turbines’ effect on the special location. They are also concerned with other proposed turbines nearby.
