Local councillors challenge Arriva’s decision to axe the 113 bus route, citing impact on residents commuting and accessing services.
Councillors Fight Arriva Bus 113 Route Cancellation in Rayne
Braintree Council and Rayne Parish Council learned about this plan. Mike Eldred leads Rayne Parish Council, and he and Ann Hooks, a district councillor, are against the cut.
Hooks said the bus removal is upsetting because people depend on the bus a lot. It helps many people get to work, attend school, and even get to appointments.
Hooks contacted local leaders, including James Cleverly MP and Braintree Council, to fight the cut. She also reached out to the County Councillor.
Eldred emailed James Cleverly MP, voicing deep worry about the plan and its impact. He asked Cleverly to look into a way to keep transport options available.
Arriva South said they changed the network to balance costs and income. Route 133 will stop from June 1 because few customers use the bus enough, and Arriva said there was no other option.
