The DfT plans to shut roads near Windsor and other terraces. Osborne, Buckingham, and Rutland Streets are also involved. Leeholme is the specific location affected. Durham County Council approved new developments there.

Roads must close for building to begin. People can check the closure plans at the Leeholme community center. Review starts February 5, 2025.

You can object to these road closures by emailing nationalcasework@dft.gov.uk. You can also send mail to the Newcastle casework team. Objections must arrive by the end of March 5, 2025.

Separately, Woodhouse Lane in Auckland now has a closure that started February 11. This relates to Durham Council’s project DM/23/01885/FPA, which they also approved. Any court challenges must happen by March 25, 2025. Contact the High Court to contest the decision.

Also, Boyne Street in Willington has a closure that started February 6. It affects a 25-meter area near some homes. Gas main work lasts about five weeks. Workers replace vital gas lines there, and a detour is available.

A Wolsingham footpath stays closed until August 2025. Footpath 44 is affected, protecting people from falling debris. The closed part is near Footpath 43, and an alternative route is marked.

Durham Council shared several new planning applications involving building changes in different towns. A Chester-le-Street ground floor may become apartments, and Graham Court in Sacriston seeks plan changes. A pub in Auckland might become retail space. Find these online at durham.gov.uk/planning and comment by February 27, 2025.

More applications exist from February 13, 2025’s announcement period. A Durham building may house more tenants, and a house in Hett may get new sides. Consett may gain a warehouse extension. Find these plans at the same website address and make comments by March 6, 2025.
