A 4.6 million investment will upgrade the water network in County Durham, benefiting residents with more reliable supplies.

The project includes a new water main, 850 meters long, stretching from the A688 junction to Westerton. A new pumping station will be built next to the A-road, assisting water reach Westerton.
The new pipe links to the current system and an old storage reservoir will stop being used. Esh-Stantec, Northumbrian Water’s partners, will begin work in March 2025.
The pumping station and the new water main should be ready by 2026. Water supplies will become more reliable, providing Westerton and surrounding towns with resilience and protecting water quality.
The water company wants little disruption, though work inside Westerton will happen sometimes. They aim to reduce any negative effects and people will be informed about the work. You can follow the project’s progress online.
