More home deliveries could explain the rise in crime, likely spurred by the Covid pandemic. Food delivery service use grew in the UK from 60% in 2017 to 67% in 2022. Evri reported delivering more parcels now, even more than during the pandemic.
Lockdowns helped boost remote work, meaning more deliveries. Delivery crime rates dropped by an average of 36.8% in North Yorkshire after the pandemic.
