Coylton Lawn Tennis Club wants the local council’s land. They sent a request to South Ayrshire Council. The request asks to fully take over the courts. The club already leases the courts and land. Now, they want permanent ownership of the site.

This change could open doors to new funding, which would improve the courts a lot. They need upgrades to the surface and other things. The club made a plan describing current problems and included this with their asset transfer request.

The courts need basic fixes and better lighting. Resurfacing the courts is their big goal, as they haven’t been resurfaced since 1995, so the surface isn’t great. The club is working to raise money.

The old surface affects play quality and income, and the courts aren’t up to modern or competition standards. Fencing and lighting also need some repairs. They might need a fence around the club’s land too. The project could cost £250,000, including VAT.

The clubhouse shares utilities with the activity center, and the power supply is proving problematic right now. Power sometimes shuts off when the tennis club needs it, because of the activity center’s closing hours.

Recently, the tennis club became a charity in hopes of getting more grants. Charity status may also lower water rates. People can comment on the asset request now; the consultation ends on February 28.
