Greenwich station is closing to replace broken escalators. TfL will announce dates soon; use Greenwich station instead.

Transport for London took over upkeep in 2021. They first tried fixing the old escalators, but COVID-19 delayed getting the needed parts. The escalators still had issues after repair, leading TfL to find they must replace them fully.
They now have the money for this project, and plans are getting finalized soon. TfL will announce the closure dates and discuss the project timeline later. Use Greenwich station for now, as signs will direct you to that alternative.
TfL wants better signs at Greenwich and plans to handle any crowding there. People are unhappy about the delays and call the lift “the worst in London.” They complain about very long lines, too.
People sometimes wait twenty minutes to use it. Only a few can fit inside the lift. Commuters say these issues have lasted too long.
