A dad and child on a bike were struck by a car at the A40 junction near Barton Park. Both sustained minor injuries.

Both suffered minor injuries in the accident. The dad was taken to the hospital for treatment. The bike exited Barton Park through the cycle lane. The traffic lights turned green as they crossed, and they reached the second road part.
The council will review the road’s speed limit. It is currently 50mph on that A40 section. They are reviewing speed limits countywide now, and they’ll also study U-turn issues there because some drivers often make illegal U-turns.
A resident said it’s a very dangerous spot, and people have tried to fix it for some time. Cars speed, running red lights frequently there. Others said that more enforcement is needed, and they want the speed limit lowered too.
Someone said the rapid light changes worry them. You must stay alert when you’re crossing. Drivers want to get where they’re going fast. They see it as a main road mainly and don’t expect many pedestrians there.
A headteacher fears a serious accident and worries a child might get hurt badly. She will take students to a council meeting soon, and she wants to share safety concerns there directly sometime in April.
A cycling group wants a total redesign and the junction made safer soon. It should happen before anyone dies there. The group wants to link Barton Park better and that it needs better connection to Oxford itself.
A council member is thinking of those affected. He said the council will help police a lot, as they are aware of the local safety concerns. They are working to address all of these issues and have committed funds for cameras. Cameras will catch red light runners specifically, and the police will then own this camera equipment.
Residents have campaigned for safety since 2019. Last year, a car and lorry crashed there too, where the driver suffered serious injuries at the time. Police have not spoken about this recent crash yet.
