Simon Vickers, 50, jailed for life for murdering Scarlett, 14, claiming it was an accident during play-fighting in their home.
A man is in jail for killing his daughter. He said they were just play-fighting. Simon Vickers, 50, murdered Scarlett, 14. The crime happened at their home in Darlington, County Durham, on July 5.
Scarlett Vickers was stabbed in the chest. The knife went 11cm deep, piercing her heart and causing major blood loss. Vickers claimed it was an accident, saying he threw the knife at her while he had been drinking and smoking.
The court did not believe his story. The wound was too deep to be an accident, and he even tried to act like he was the victim after Scarlett died in the kitchen. Police arrested Vickers after the incident.
He told police they were “horse-playing” and that he was very unlucky. Footage showed him worried about a holiday and asking how his daughter was doing. He said they were playing in the kitchen at the time.
Vickers said they were throwing grapes while Scarlett’s mom made dinner. He claimed Scarlett called him a wimp, so he grabbed tongs and threw them. He also said Scarlett fell down afterwards.
Vickers said her lips turned blue, and he shouted at her, but she didn’t respond. Sarah, her mom, called for help. Vickers called Scarlett the “love of my life” and told police his world had “gone to s***.”
He denied telling paramedics it “just went in” after Scarlett “lunged” at him. Vickers insisted he would never stab his child. He claimed he only threw tongs at her and said he wanted to die too.
The court heard he gave different stories before his police interview. The prosecutor said Vickers stabbed Scarlett on purpose, stating the wound could not come from throwing something.
Scarlett’s mom said it was an accident and that she trusts her partner of 27 years. She would not support him if he hurt their daughter. His lawyer said the family is serving a life sentence.
