Council approves conversion of storage building in Dalbeattie to a two-bedroom house with eco-friendly features.

Jason plans a two-bedroom house. He will add new windows and doors. Solar panels are also planned, as well as an efficient heat pump. The building is on High Street, accessible via Burn Street.
Councillors approved the plans recently, but the decision went to Scottish Ministers. This was due to an objection from SEPA, who requested more flood risk information.
Joshua Scott, a council planning officer, suggested approving the plans. He wrote a planning report describing the building’s intended changes.
These changes include six rooflights and the creation of two new windows. They’ll also alter existing door and window openings. One new window goes on the west side, with other new windows fitting existing openings.
The council discussed the matter last Thursday. Joshua Scott informed them about flooding concerns. Their team had no worries, citing a past study showing no significant risk.
Kim Lowe proposed approval, which Ivor Hyslop seconded. Kim Lowe noted that much of Dalbeattie is at risk of floods and houses near the building are at the same level.
Kim Lowe stated she can’t see a water level problem, arguing that if that building floods, Dalbeattie will too. She hopes they accept the recommendation, believing it is not a problem. Jason now awaits a final decision, which Holyrood will make.
