Infamous Liverpool gangster Danny Gee, known as “Britain’s toughest prisoner”, was rearrested after a brief escape from a low-security prison.

After escaping in 2024, Danny ran. His brother described Danny as “volatile.” Danny was a key figure in a gang that controlled Liverpool’s Grizedale estate. His older brother, Darren, was also involved in the gang.
Danny sold drugs for big profits, making £20,000 a week. The gang used knives and guns to protect their criminal business. It grew across Liverpool’s north end. In 2008, a sixteen-year-old, Jamie Starkey, shot Danny on New Year’s Day, hitting his stomach and lung.
Danny refused medical help, and the shooting caused a revenge cycle. Danny threatened Starkey’s family and tried to get firearms. In 2009, a court convicted Danny of threats and blackmail. He also admitted to firearm offenses.
His brother Darren said Danny was volatile and caused trouble in prison. Darren said they trashed their cell, and he felt responsible for Danny because he “couldn’t control himself.” Before his arrest, Danny trained often, and people called him “Hulk.”
Danny escaped Kirklevington Grange prison, a Category D facility with low security where inmates can work outside. The Ministry of Justice confirmed his escape and stated they were working with police to recapture him.
CCTV showed him on trains with a woman and a stroller. After a month, police arrested Danny in Wigan. Merseyside Police made the arrest on June 25, 2024.
He had an IPP sentence for dangerous offenders whose crimes don’t warrant life. He will stay in jail until safe to release. A judge said the public needs protection and didn’t know when release would be safe.
