Hey, listen to this cool thing in Darlington!

The Uniform Exchange helps families with school clothes. It’s on Beaumont Street, in the Feethams car park. They started in 2020 and save families a lot of money.

Darlington Cares runs it. It’s open weekdays, 10 AM to 1 PM. They want to open longer hours and really need more volunteers.

School uniforms can be super pricey. Kids grow out of them so fast. The Exchange helps save money and is also good for the planet.

They have fifteen awesome volunteers now, who make the Exchange amazing. But they need more help to grow and want weekend opening hours.

Volunteers sort donated clothes and shoes. In a Spin Laundry Services cleans everything well, then they give them away for free.

Last year, they gave away thirteen thousand items. About forty-two hundred families benefitted; that’s a lot of folks!

Penny has volunteered there since 2022. She saw families struggle with uniforms and also thinks reusing clothes is great. Penny enjoys helping Darlington.

They need people for three hours a week, which makes a big difference to families! Get in touch with Sarah to volunteer; her email is Sarah.Small@darlington.gov.uk.

You can drop off uniforms at several spots, like The Dolphin Centre or Cornmill Centre. Cockerton Club, Eastbourne Park Hub, Firthmoor Centre and In a Spin also work!
