Hey, guess what I just read? Firefighters think they know why fires dropped. They are talking about deliberate fires in Nithsdale. Extra education for kids seems to work. Starting fires on purpose is way down.

Fire chiefs said the drops were “huge.” North West Dumfries had lots of fires. Now, they’re seeing fewer kids starting fires there, making empty buildings, cars, and land safer.

A report covers April to September last year. They will show the report to the council soon. Kevin McCartney made the report. Deliberate fires fell by 52 percent!

This includes a drop in all districts. Northwest Dumfries still has the most fires. But even there, fires fell by 63 percent. Firefighters spoke to kids in Dumfries, which seems to have helped a lot.

They work with groups to cut these fires. Most of the fires were small or “secondary.” The rest involved buildings, cars, or valuable land.

Firefighters worked with police and youth services. They also worked with the schools. Some kids got charged with crimes, while others did a fire safety program.

Fire safety teams help children’s homes too. There were false alarms plus some fires there. Staff help the homes keep everyone safe.

The fire service educates kids with partners. They do a three-week program for kids age 11/12. It teaches about safety and behavior’s impact. They did the program in Stranraer, and also in Dumfries.
