Decision on the Devizes Wadworth brewery site redevelopment, including 102 homes, faces final committee review on February 27.

They changed the plan to fix some problems. A committee will now look at the housing plan. Iain Wallis asked them to check it closely. He worries about neighbors and the environment. He also wants more affordable homes.
The committee meets at The Corn Exchange on February 27. Council staff think the plan should pass. They wrote a report for the committee. The report says it helps the town a lot.
They said a vacant site could become ugly. Fixing it brings growth and new houses. These benefits outweigh any problems. Experts think it’s good to approve the project.
The builders, Backhouse, plan more than homes. They promise a shop and open spaces too. People could walk to the canal from there. Only eight of the homes will be affordable.
The old brewery buildings have a separate plan. Michelle Hyde works for Backhouse. She says their plan is a great renewal project. It should be a nice area to live in.
The design fits Devizes’ look, she added. They spoke with neighbors while planning the project. They want everything to work well together.
