Dorset veterans embark on a 1,800-mile WWII jeep tour, honoring D-Day and VE Day, raising funds for charity.

Veterans will visit 40 cemeteries. They plan to see 200 graves along the way, paying respects to fallen regiment members.
The journey is a charity drive for vets. They aim to raise funds for The Light Dragoons’ Charitable Trust, assisting veterans and their families. Many need help after Middle East and Afghanistan combat.
The jeep drivers are mostly Dorset locals, including Purbeck and Weymouth residents. Four recent army veterans have over 80 years of service and three military vehicle owners are joining them too.
The organiser calls it an ambitious journey, marking D-Day and VE Day anniversaries. They also want to honor those lost from their old regiment.
The group will use vintage WWII jeeps, following the regiment’s liberation route that started with tanks on French beaches on D-Day. The journey ends where peace was declared.
The group starts their trip in late May. They are preparing their jeeps, taking a 100-mile trip around Dorset first.
