Police identify the driver who fled after a tram crash on Mosley Street resulted in the death of a 3-year-old girl.
Police said the van hit the tram hard. This pushed the van up onto the sidewalk. Sadly, there was a little girl there and the van hit her too.
She was only three years old. The girl later died in the hospital because her injuries were just too severe.
The van driver ran away after it happened. Now, police are searching for him and checking into several leads to find him.
Cops think they know who he is and want to arrest him, but as of now, they haven’t arrested anyone.
The police are still investigating, focusing on Mosley Street and nearby roads, with officers checking Booth Street and Nicholas Street.
A police chief spoke about it, sending her sympathy to the family and saying it was a terrible thing. Officers tried hard to save her life.
The investigation goes on, she said. They are working on several leads and the police believe it was a one-time thing, so they don’t think others are in danger.
An ambulance person also spoke, saying they’re thinking of the girl’s family. The ambulance came quickly to Mosley Street around 9:58 Saturday morning.
